Frozen Shoulder … and …. Alternative Medicine!

IT started early morning Monday after spending the whole night helping the nuns prepare the whole night for a training the next day… IT wasn’t really very painful, but I felt a sensation so much like a slight muscle strain or something on my right shoulder… then my mind wandered to having a good old massage the next day…

When I went home Monday night, I told myself I’m going to have to go to that massage clinic first thing in the morning because I felt my shoulders knot up… Well, I didn’t make it that far… Midnight of Monday I cannot sleep due to severe throbbing pain on my right shoulder! I can’t even lie down to sleep because my whole right arm feels like it is being ripped apart! Whew!

And so yesterday instead of having a leisurely massage on a spa, I had to go see a doctor… I didn’t go to either of my uncles though, for they will surely do more than check you up, they also probe… personal probing questions and unsolicited advises that is kinda sweet on other occasions but very irritating when you feel severe pain! LOL! I went my doctor friend, Vic who wanted me to have all these tests… CBC, 2D Echo, FBS, Xray, etc. etc… Fortunately, he said, there’s no fracture or torn ligaments … it is just frozen shoulders… so much like the stiffed neck muscle ailment.

He said he had two ways to go about it, either I take these medications which he didn’t really like giving or going to he other building for alternative medicine which is what he is more inclining to because there was really no need for pharmaceutical medicines except perhaps for a pain reliever pill… And yes, most of the hospitals here in Davao already have this alternative medicine department where they offer services like therapeutic massage, acupuncture, acupressure, herbal medicines, Chinese or oriental medicines etc, etc...

What causes frozen shoulders? Several possibilities really... 1. Body Chemical change – which occurs when you have either high uric acid, high sugar, high blood pressure, heart attack etc etc which luckily according to all the tests I’m negative of… 2. Psychological strain – too much work, too much worries cause muscles to know up, which I probably do have but not quite the past weeks… the week was unusually slower and happier than the previous weeks…. and, 3. Physical muscle strain – like carrying heavy loads on shoulder like lying down on it or wrong sleeping position AND muscles exposed to long hours of minimal movement or strenuous minimal movement *Vic’s eyebrows lifting up and saying* “like computer keyboards and mouse… especially of long hours of use and NON ERGONOMIC! I had to smile because, though Vic is not a contact here at multiply, he receives my blogs in his emails LOL and quite honestly I’ve been overdoing chat a little lately, LOL…

Well, I did went to the alternative medicine and I had this 1st session of this very painful yet relaxing after acupressure, then they gave me this thing they called “yellow ginger” *wondering if this is ginseng roots* to drink because it keeps the temperature of your body warmer and thus making the muscles loosen up, and lastly, they wanted me to put this leaf “tuba-tuba” over it in the evening which can warm the painful area. *Incidentally this leaf is actually from the Jethropa plant, long used as a tribal medical plant but is now propagated rapidly by the government because its seeds can be a good source for alternative fuel * Now, what a plant, right?! But since farmers converted lands to plant them nowadays for a higher source of income, we now have rice shortage all over the country, LOL… the yin and yang of things LOL

Whatever, I don’t want to think profoundly! I just want my shoulder to be better! I needed to go to the acupressure sessions every other day, and I hope to God, it won’t be as painful as this morning!

Believe you me… a FROZEN shoulder is NOT at all COOL!!!
