Fuming mad! I never saw my sister this mad before… and she was alone too, watching the early evening news.
“What’s wrong with you”, I asked. “Listen to this crap! I can’t believe people can actually do this!”, she said.
And so I tried to listen to the news she was watching but I can’t really understand it cause it towards the end of the news. So I said, “what’s it all about anyway?” She looked at me and her face shows she was controlling her anger, but she proceeded in tell me the back to back news that angered her so much.
First news: A new born baby was thrown out of a condominium window. After hearing something thud on the roof of the first floor the condominium personnel and bystanders rushed up to the roof to find out what it was and to their dismay found a newly born baby including the placenta there…the bystanders rushed the baby to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival and hematoma as cause of death. I can hear anger in my sister’s voice as she was narrating and you can see her eyes were fiery! Well, I don’t blame her, I felt remorse as well…Then my sister said, “And here’s another, sis.”
Second news: A store owner in Paco, Manila was surprised when a taxi passing by slowed down and some passengers threw something out from the backseat cab door. At first she thought it was a doll wrapped in white cloth but then the “thing” started moving and so she approached it and found out it was a baby. She said the baby’s face was full of blood so she rushed her to the hospital. Fortunately the child survived and now transferred to the custody of the Department of Social Welfare. “Imagine to throw a baby out of a car! I can’t even imagine the fear in me when a baby I was holding slowly slips down from my arms… let alone throw it! And out the car In the Middle of the road!”. She added with a tinge of resentment.
“Sad…. Really.. sad!’, I replied…
“No it’s not only sad, sis…. It’s infuriating! Exasperating! And I can’t help but think it’s all so unfair!” I gave her a questioning look, and her face sobered. “Why are people like them given the chance to be mothers, sis? My husband and I have been trying for six years, we spent so much for medications, doctors, specialists for SIX long painful years, and still we aren’t fortunate to have even one single child! I long to hold my child in my arms so much, but I wasn’t allowed such joy. They on the other hand, wanted to get rid of them right away! And not only that, killing them brutally! When they could have given them to people like me! Why are these murderers given the privilege to become mothers and NOT ME?” Tears of frustration rolled down her face now, her eyes still questioning me?
What logical answer can I ever give her? I was crying too, as I thought to myself, “Why, Indeed?”
No, I don’t have the answers, probably never will, so I just went to her and gave her a hug. And we both cried together.
