Celebrating... the Davao way!

They've been here before the 19th century... long before the other settlers came over.. and starting their businesses before anyone else...

my grandpa used to say there were two main business streets in davao... San Pedro St where the electronic stores established and run by the Indians from Mombay... and Uyanguren, where the Chinese are....

but it was only last year that they want to make their presence "known" by putting up the Unity Arches on both sides of the Uyanguren street... but because they might have assimilated the Davao culture already.. the Chinese town arches had a Davao touch in it... indigenous davao art merged with the chinese style... goes well together, huh?

and so the celebration starts...

no, not with a movie... though, chinese movies were shown on the video screen set up on the arch before the D' 1st hour of the new year.... why do they have it then ??

well, Firecrackers are banned in davao for more than 7 years now... and since the Chines New YEar is never complete without the fireworks and firecrackers... they would do it virtually!... hahahahaha.. no kidding they really did!!!

but of course it is never shinese without the selling of chinese goods.. read... CHEAPER than BARGAIN goods.... lol.... so people flock there to shop.... whether on the street...

or inside the malls...

and even non-chinces sells there ware.... lol

i didnt wait for the 12o'clock celebration, though.... the crows was too much for me.... i just went there to see the pitbull showdown... lol.... or so i said.... hahahaha

truth be told, i spent hours with my friend jenny rummaging the street market and the malls...lol... and stopped wheb we ran out of money already... hahahaha... remember they only take cash and dont know plastic! hahahhhaa

here's more pics....
